Celebrating 25 years of agricultural biotech

Brussels, Belgium
May 2020

Agricultural biotechnology allows us to improve crops in targeted ways, including resistance to pests and diseases, better stress tolerance, or enhanced nutritional profiles.

Agricultural biotechnology in the form of genetically modified crops saw widespread adoption in 1995 – 25 years ago.

Since then, there have been many notable developments in agricultural biotech – from new GM varieties to completely new techniques like genome editing.

Today, genome editing allows us to target plants in increasingly precise ways.

Check out the important agricultural biotech milestones of the past 25 years below, as well as the future milestones in agricultural biotech we may yet reach.
