Responding to the ever-increasing development of innovations in the seed industry, the Seed Innovation and Protection Alliance (SIPA) has developed a new informational video explaining the benefits of buying professional produced seed and the advances made possible by seed innovation.
The video, which highlights vegetables, explains how every time you buy professionally produced seed you help ensure things like greater farm profitability and increased yields. The video also highlights some of the advances in seed technology and how the money invested in buying professionally produced seed helps ensure continued investment in seed innovations.
Innovations from the seed industry are helping to address many of the economic, environmental and health issues we face as a global society. Seed improvements allow us to produce more food from the same resources, which is essential to feed our growing population.
“Innovation is critical to the agriculture industry,” says James Weatherly, Executive Director of SIPA. “We developed this video to help the grower understand the benefits they receive from the continued development of new innovations and to explain the intellectual property rights that may be used to protect these innovations.”
Corinne Marshall, Chair of the SIPA Program Board of Directors points out that “growers are industry stakeholders in the process of bringing new and exciting seed innovations from product concept to the consumer”. “We recognize the important role that growers have as stewards of our industry’s intellectual property and by launching this brand-new video, we continue our effort to promote the value of seed innovations to them.”
SIPA helps ensure the continued development of new seed technology by creating a unified and consistent voice for education and best practices around intellectual property protection and its value to our society.
The new informational video is a part of SIPA’s continued effort to develop educational materials for outreach to seed companies, public and private researchers, and others. SIPA has support from throughout the seed industry including the American Seed Trade Association, seed companies, and service providers. SIPA welcomes membership from across the seed and agricultural industry, including but not limited to, seed companies, growers, producers, authorized dealers, brokers, suppliers, service providers, universities, as well as state and federal agencies. SIPA’s membership is diverse in terms of organizational size and scope, and includes companies that develop and sell flower, vegetable, grass and row crop seeds.
