The new global QS ranking shows Wageningen University & Research among the 10 per cent best universities in the world. This is unprecedented since the start of this ranking. WUR has risen ten places, from the 125th to the 115th spot. The QS World University Ranking is published annually and is considered one of the most influential rankings in the world.
The ascent appears to be the result of WUR’s excellent reputation and the increase in the number of international employees. The relatively high number of staff members in relation to students is an essential factor in the high ranking.
WUR’s ranking among Dutch universities also shows a significant rise: from 7th place in 2019 to 3rd place this year.

How the ranking is determined
Over 1000 universities were evaluated for the QS World University Rankings 2021. Half of the ranking criteria relate to reputation, of which 40 per cent is academic reputation and 10 per cent employer reputation.
The other half of the criteria relate to the staff/student ratio (20%), the number of citations per researcher (20%) and the number of international employees (5%) and students (5%).
