North Dakota State University's Agronomy Seed Farm Field Day to be virtual - Variety updates and production problems will be among the topics covered during the virtual field day

Fargo, North Dakota, USA
June 30, 2020

This year’s North Dakota State University Agronomy Seed Farm field day will be a virtual event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prerecorded videos on a variety of topics will go live July 13. Visit the farm’s website at https://www.ag.ndsu.edu/agronomyseedfarm to view the videos.

“Despite the problems related to the pandemic, the Agronomy Seed Farm continues to work on foundation seed production and providing support for the ag research carried out by the main campus researchers,” says Brian Otteson, Agronomy Seed Farm director. “The prerecorded videos will provide useful information to producers on a variety of topics, including variety updates and current production problems they may be facing this year. I think producers will find these videos very informative and useful.”

Topics for this year’s virtual field day and the presenters are:

  • Small-grain disease update - Andrew Friskop, NDSU Extension cereal crop plant pathologist
  • Small-grain variety update - Joel Ransom, NDSU Extension small grains agronomist
  • Soybean cyst nematode update - Sam Markell, NDSU Extension plant pathologist
  • Weed control update - Joseph Ikley, NDSU Extension weed specialist
  • Spring wheat breeding program update and variety review - Andrew Green, NDSU hard red spring wheat breeder
  • Foundation seed update - Steve Sebesta, North Dakota Foundation Seedstocks Program director
  • Precision agriculture update - John Nowatzki, NDSU Extension ag machines systems specialist
