NASC organized a training for Licensed Seed Inspectors (LSIs) under the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation sponsored Building a Sustainable Integrated Seed System for Cassava in Nigeria (BASICS-II) Project Third Party Certification. The training which was meant for LSIs in Kogi State was held at Lokoja from November 4-6, 2020.

The objectives of the training was to: introduce LSIs to BASICS-II Project and their specific functions under the project; introduce LSIs to cassava seed system; equip LSIs with the requisite knowledge to carry out cassava certification (cassava seed production & VSE activities, cassava seed protocol, cassava diseases and varieties identification, field certification process, scoring & reporting); and acquaint LSIs with knowledge of Cassava Seed Tracker (CST) and use.

The pilot phase of the third party certification scheme started in Benue State in 2019 under the BASICS Project and is now being replicated in Benue State.
