The CONVISO® SMART system, developed by KWS and Bayer CropScience, offers an efficient, sustainable approach to control weeds in sugarbeet cultivation. Compared with traditional weed control, this method reduces the amount of herbicide used as well as the number of runs in the field needed. This makes the technology a true innovation in sugarbeet cultivation. CONVISO® SMART has now received amended approval in Germany.
CONVISO® SMART Sugarbeets
The CONVISO® SMART system comprises two interconnected components: A modern herbicide and conventionally bred sugarbeet varieties that are tolerant to the herbicide. KWS is responsible for breeding and producing the seed, while Bayer CropScience manufactures the herbicide CONVISO® ONE. Launched in 2018, the successful system is now used in more than 25 countries around the world.

Applying three to five herbicide treatments during each growing season is the norm for standard weed control. With the CONVISO® SMART system, only two treatments with CONVISO® ONE are necessary. This means fewer runs in the field and therefore time savings for users as well as a significant reduction in the use of crop protection. CONVISO® SMART is also well tolerated by cultivated plants.
The revised approval from July 13, 2022, specifies that CONVISO® ONE herbicide can be used on undrained land at a practical application rate of 2 x 0.5 liters per hectare. On areas with drainage, the same application rate can be used in a hoe-band system. This newly approved application rate totaling one liter per hectare makes it possible to reliably control the most significant weeds in sugarbeet cultivation.
Featuring different tolerance combinations, the three sugarbeet varieties SMART MANJA KWS, SMART MIREA KWS and SMART THEKLA KWS cover a wide range of local conditions and have all received approval in Germany. The system will be available for sowing in 2023.

Zulassung des Conviso Smart Anbausystems für Zuckerrüben in Deutschland
Das CONVISO® SMART System, entwickelt von KWS und Bayer CropScience, bietet eine effiziente und nachhaltige Möglichkeit der Unkrautkontrolle beim Anbau von Zuckerrüben. Im Vergleich zur klassischen Unkrautbekämpfung wird die Menge an eingesetzten Herbiziden reduziert und Überfahrten können eingespart werden. Die Technologie stellt somit eine echte Innovation im Zuckerrübenanbau dar. Für CONVISO® SMART ist in Deutschland nun eine novellierte Zulassung erteilt worden.
Das CONVISO® SMART System besteht aus zwei miteinander verbundenen Komponenten: Klassisch gezüchteten Zuckerrübensorten und einem modernen Herbizid, gegen das diese Sorten tolerant sind. KWS ist für Züchtung und Produktion des Saatgutes verantwortlich, Bayer CropScience ist Hersteller des Herbizids CONVISO® ONE. Das erfolgreiche System ist 2018 eingeführt worden und wird mittlerweile in mehr als 25 Ländern weltweit genutzt.

Bei der klassischen Unkrautkontrolle sind drei bis fünf Herbizidbehandlungen pro Anbausaison die Regel. Mit dem CONVISO® SMART System sind lediglich zwei Behandlungen mit CONVISO® ONE notwendig. Dies bedeutet weniger Überfahrten und eine signifikante Zeitersparnis für den Anwender, bei deutlicher Reduktion des Einsatzes von Pflanzenschutzmitteln. CONVISO® SMART zeichnet sich zudem durch eine hohe Kulturpflanzenverträglichkeit aus.
Die überarbeitete Zulassung vom 13. Juli 2022 legt fest, dass das Herbizid CONVISO® ONE auf undrainierten Flächen in einer praxistauglichen Aufwandmenge von 2 x 0,5 Litern pro Hektar eingesetzt werden kann. Auf Flächen mit Drainage ist die Anwendung in der gleichen Aufwandmenge im Hacke-Band-System möglich. Durch diese nun zugelassene Aufwandmenge von in Summe einem Liter pro Hektar ist eine sichere Bekämpfung der wichtigsten Unkräuter im Zuckerrübenanbau möglich.
Mit SMART MANJA KWS, SMART MIREA KWS und SMART THEKLA KWS sind bereits drei Zuckerrübensorten mit verschiedenen Toleranzkombinationen in Deutschland zugelassen, die eine Vielzahl von Standortbedingungen abdecken. Das System wird zur Aussaat 2023 zur Verfügung stehen.
