The plant breeding company KWS is further expanding its headquarters in Einbeck and starting one of the largest single construction projects ever at the location. Work on the approximately 13,000-square-meter building for processing and storing breeding material has now begun. The planned investment volume totals more than €40 million.

The property earmarked for the expansion is located in the northeastern area of the company’s premises on Otto-Hahn-Str. across from the Otto-Hahn park.
Here, KWS will erect a building for processing and storing breeding material. This “treasure chamber” of plant breeding work will store the seeds of many different plants with a total of around 1.3 million different lots of beet, oil and catch crop seed to be stored there in the future. These seeds will form the basis for multiyear development of high-performance and resistant varieties for agriculture. The new facility will also house the processing work of seed for official variety trials and seed propagation. “The continuous growth of KWS’s business can also be seen at our Einbeck location,” explains KWS Executive Board Spokesperson Hagen Duenbostel. “Building the facility will enable us to expand the capacities of a core component of our product development.” More than 100 employees will work in the building.
Implementing the project will include focusing special attention on sustainability and energy efficiency: This approach to construction includes the plan to use climate-friendly building materials and to install photovoltaic and heat-recovery systems. Construction work has now started with completion of the building project targeted for mid of 2024.
Weiteres Wachstum in Einbeck: KWS startet Neubau
Das Pflanzenzüchtungsunternehmen KWS baut die Firmenzentrale in Einbeck weiter aus und startet eines der bisher größten Einzelbauprojekte am Standort. Derzeit laufen die ersten Arbeiten für die Errichtung eines rund 13.000 Quadratmeter großen Gebäudes für die Aufbereitung und Lagerung von Zuchtmaterial. Das geplante Investitionsvolumen umfasst über 40 Millionen Euro.
Der Bau erfolgt auf einem Grundstück, das im nordöstlichen Bereich des Unternehmensgeländes an der Otto-Hahn-Straße, gegenüber des Otto-Hahn-Parks, gelegen ist. KWS wird dort ein Gebäude für die Aufbereitung und Lagerung von Zuchtmaterial errichten. In dieser „Schatzkammer“ der pflanzenzüchterischen Arbeit wird das Saatgut unterschiedlichster Pflanzen aufbewahrt. Insgesamt werden dort zukünftig rund 1,3 Mio. verschiedene Partien von Rüben-, Öl- und Zwischenfrüchtesaatgut gelagert. Dieses bildet die Grundlage für die mehrjährige Entwicklung leistungsstarker und widerstandsfähiger Sorten für die Landwirtschaft. Darüber hinaus wird in dem Neubau Saatgut für behördliche Sortenversuche sowie für die Saatgutvermehrung aufbereitet. „Das kontinuierliche Wachstum des KWS Geschäfts ist auch an unserem Einbecker Standort sichtbar. Mit dem Bau erweitern wir die Kapazitäten eines Kernbestandteils unserer Produktentwicklung“, erklärt KWS Vorstandssprecher Hagen Duenbostel. In dem Gebäude werden über 100 Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter tätig sein.
Bei der Umsetzung des Projekts wird ein besonderes Augenmerk auf Nachhaltigkeit und Energieeffizienz gelegt: So sollen unter anderem klimaschonende Baustoffe verwendet werden, ebenso ist die Installation von Photovoltaikanlagen und Systemen zur Wärmerückgewinnung vorgesehen. Die Fertigstellung des Bauprojekts ist für Mitte 2024 geplant.
