Food Standards Australia New Zealand calls for comments on an assessment report for food derived from a genetically modified soybean

New Zealand
April 7, 2011

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FZANZ) today called for comment on an assessment report for food derived from a genetically modified soybean.

FSANZ Chief Executive Steve McCutcheon said a second assessment report had been released on an application for a genetically modified soybean that is a plant source of omega-3 fatty acids.

“The report relates to an application to use a new variety of soybean, genetically modified to produce stearidonic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid, in the seeds of the plant,” Mr McCutcheon said.

“FSANZ welcomes comments from government agencies, public health professionals, industry and the community on issues raised in the report.”

Application A1041 second assessment report can be found HERE

Submissions on the second assessment report for Application A1041 close on 5 May 2011.
