Several conferences, new and completed collaborative projects, a new website and the best financial result ever. These are some of the highlights described in the recently published NordGen Annual Review 2024.

Anyone who wants to know more about NordGen's operations during the past year can now read the annual review, which is available here.

2024 was an eventful year in which NordGen became the focal point for knowledge exchange in the field of genetic resources. During the past year, three conferences were organised by NordGen. Three conferences were organised by NordGen during the year, focusing on Nordic farm animal genetic resources, nortern forest regeneration and finally the ”Nordic Conference on Genetic Resources – Possibilities and Urgency” which attracted about 300 participants in person and on line.

Last year was also busy for all collaborative projects. For example, four new projects started within the Nordic Public-Private Partnership for pre-breeding. These initaitves - involvning 20 project partners from the Nordic and the Baltic countries - focus on breeding developments in potatoes, berries, spring wheat and oats.

2024 was also the last year for the third project period of the Nordic crop wild relatives project. The collaboration led by NordGen has resulted in several important outputs such as climate change modelling, plant inventories and seed collections, genetic diversity analysis and much more, as described in the project report.

During 2024, several other publications were published by NordGen. For example, the Report from the 100 year storage experiment in Coal mine no. 3 on Svalbard and The first status report on the conservation of farm animal genetic resources (AnGR) in the Nordics. At the same time, it has been a year in which great results have again been achieved for NordGen's entire operations and the financial results for 2024 is the best ever in NordGen's history, largely due to the basis of external project funding.
