We are introducing a new real-time PCR to test the presence or absence of Lettuce mosaic virus (LMV) on seeds of lettuce. This test will replace the seed extract ELISA test as of July 1, 2025.
This test gives no indication of whether or not the virus is infectious. In case of a positive result, a new sample can be sent in to perform a seedling ELISA test.
A technique for rapid amplification of RNA
This is done with the help of pathogen-specific building blocks. The increase in DNA can be monitored digitally at any time. This makes it possible to faster and with more certainty confirm whether the seed samples actually contain the pathogen.
Lettuce mosaic vius (LMV)
The Lettuce mosaic virus results in yellowing and necrosis of the leaves, growth distortions and dwarfisms of lettuce plants. The pathogen is globally distributed, it often transmitted through aphids and can be seed transmitted. Some LMV strains can also overcome resistance in lettuce plants, being of greater concern.

Nieuwe Zaad-Extract PCR (ZE-PCR) toets voor sla
We introduceren een nieuwe real-time PCR om de aan- of afwezigheid van Lettuce mosaic virus (LMV) op zaad van sla te kunnen toetsen. Deze toets vervangt vanaf 1 juli de zaad-extract ELISA-test.
Deze test geeft geen indicatie of het virus wel of niet infectieus is. Bij een positieve uitslag kan een nieuw monster ingestuurd worden om een zaailing ELISA-test uit te voeren.
Techniek vermeerdert RNA op snelle manier
Dit gebeurt met behulp van pathogeenspecifieke bouwstenen. De toename van het RNA kan op elk moment digitaal gevolgd worden. Hierdoor is het mogelijk om sneller en met meer zekerheid te bevestigen of in (verdachte) kolonies daadwerkelijk de ziekteverwekker aanwezig is.
Lettuce mosaic virus (LMV)
Het Lettuce mosaic virus veroorzaakt vergeling en necrose van de bladeren, groeiverstoringen en dwerggroei van slaplanten. De ziekteverwekker is wereldwijd verspreid, wordt vaak overgedragen door bladluizen en is zaad overdraagbaar. Sommige LMV-varianten kunnen ook resistentie overwinnen in slaplanten, wat een grote zorg is.

We ondersteunen de sector
Naktuinbouw Laboratoria blijft om de sector te ondersteunen nieuwe toetsen ontwikkelen. Die toetsen ondersteunen diagnoses op planten met symptomen of controleren het juist op en garanderen van vrijheid van bepaalde plantpathogenen.
