Argenetics Semillas and BioHeuris partner to launch Suron, the first multi-herbicide tolerance technology for sorghum

Rosario and Colón, Argentina
May 28, 2025

BioHeuris, a leading company in developing weed management solutions, and Argenetics Semillas, a company focused on crop genetic improvement and the commercialization of high-performance hybrids globally, have partnered to launch SURON, the first technology providing tolerance to multiple herbicides in sorghum. Unlike other options available in the market, SURON enables the use of both sulfonylureas and imidazolinones, offering growers greater flexibility and more tools for weed control. This combination expands management possibilities, allowing the use of herbicides in both pre- and post-emergence stages, adapting different strategies to the field conditions.

The use of sulfonylureas in sorghum cultivation represents a key advancement for effective weed control and the management of herbicide-resistant biotypes. Additionally, its tolerance to multiple ALS herbicides provides greater freedom in crop rotation systems where these active ingredients are commonly used.

“The partnership with Argenetics Semillas not only accelerates the delivery of SURON to farmers but also expands our reach, allowing us to access more agricultural regions in different countries and offer solutions tailored to local challenges,” said Lucas Lieber, CEO of BioHeuris.

Argenetics Semillas develops hybrids of corn, sunflower, and sorghum adapted to various productive regions. Their materials combine yield, stability, and disease resistance, and will be the first to incorporate SURON technology in the market. “At Argenetics Semillas, we have been investing in sorghum genetics for years. The incorporation of SURON represents a technological leap that enhances our competitive positioning and the value we offer to producers,” stated Lucio Maranessi, Director of Argenetics Semillas

In 2025, both companies will evaluate hybrids with SURON technology in different regions in Argentina, with the goal of starting commercialization the following year, once the registration of the hybrids and corresponding herbicides is completed.
