USDA/NIFA invests $1.8M in supplemental and alternative crops
USA
November 19, 2025
USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture has invested $1.8 million in three projects funded by the Supplemental and Alternative Crops (SAC) grant program. The SAC grant program supports projects that lead to expanded adaptation and increased acreage in the United States of canola grown for oil and industrial hemp grown for value-added products. This is an integrated research and Extension program that will produce results to increase the cost effectiveness and competitiveness of these two crops grown as components of production systems across the country. Research results and technology are expected to be rapidly transferred to producers and other users through effective Extension outreach and other engagement efforts.
