Syngenta and Provivi, leading agricultural innovation and technology companies, announced today an exclusive distribution agreement to introduce a new generation of sprayable pheromone formulation for Fall Armyworm (FAW - Spodoptera frugiperda) control in row crop farms in Brazil. This strategic partnership aims to provide Brazilian farmers with a critical, sustainable tool to combat one of the world's most destructive agricultural pests.
Fall Armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) poses a severe and escalating threat to global food security, particularly in Brazil, where it causes significant yield losses in key crops such as cotton, corn, and soybean. Characterized by rapid reproduction, wide-ranging migratory ability, and a strong adaptability that leads to quick development of resistance to conventional pesticides, FAW demands innovative and diverse management strategies. Enabling growers to manage this pest through new modes of action is critical for sustainable agriculture.
The new solution is a cutting-edge sprayable formulation that combines three distinct pheromones for FAW mating disruption. This high-quality encapsulated formulation ensures a slow, sustained release of pheromones, providing extended residuality and offering a cost-efficient IPM approach to FAW control throughout the season. By disrupting the pest's mating cycle, the product offers a targeted and environmentally friendly method to reduce FAW populations and protect crops.
"Our partnership with Provivi underscores Syngenta's commitment to delivering innovative and sustainable solutions that address the most pressing challenges faced by farmers", said Emilhano Lima, Global Head of Syngenta Seedcare and Biologicals. "The Fall Armyworm is a formidable adversary, and this new pheromone technology will be a vital addition to the integrated pest management strategies for Brazilian growers, helping them protect their yields in a durable way while preserving the environment".
"Fall Armyworm remains a major threat in Brazil, and growers urgently need tools that break the cycle of resistance. By combining Provivi’s advanced pheromone technology with Syngenta’s unmatched reach, we can rapidly scale an effective, sustainable solution”.", said Corey Huck, Provivi’s Chief Executive Officer. "This exclusive distribution agreement with Syngenta in Brazil builds on four years of market introduction for our FAW sprayable pheromone, offering a powerful and eco-friendly tool against the devastating Fall Armyworm".
The exclusive distribution agreement leverages Syngenta's extensive market reach and expertise in Brazil with Provivi’s ability to produce pheromones at large scale and in a very effective way, ensuring that this innovative technology can be effectively deployed to farmers across the region. Registration for the product was submitted to local authorities earlier this year.
