Webinar by the ISTA Purity Committee: ISTA Universal List of Species and its Identification References: ISTA Project 20-2 -

This webinar will introduce the purpose and role of the ISTA Universal List and demonstrate how to use the newly developed fact sheets and other online resources to support seed identification and training.
On Wednesday, 04 February 2026, 17:00 - 18:00 CET, we invite you to join our webinar, where Ruojing and Deborah will share their expertise and insights from the work of the ISTA Purity Technical Committee (PUR TCOM) on the ISTA Project 20-2.
The webinar will be interactive, and questions from the audience will be gathered and discussed during the dedicated Q&A time slot. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate, so please hurry up and register as soon as possible. Certificate of attendance will be provided.

Ruojing Wang obtained her Ph.D. in Plant Ecology from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. She is currently the Section Head of the Seed Science and Technology Section at the Saskatoon Laboratory, Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), an ISTA accredited lab (CADL08). Her roles at CFIA have included Research Scientist, Curator of the National Seed Herbarium, Program Coordinator overseeing accreditation programs for Canadian seed testing laboratories, and Supervisor of diagnostic tests supporting seed certification and phytosanitary certification.
Ruojing served as Vice Chair of the Purity Technical Committee (TCOM) from 2016 to 2025 and was elected ECOM Member-at-Large at the 34th ISTA Congress in May 2025, New Zealand. She has actively contributed to technical committees, ISTA rule proposals, associated validation studies and tool development, and multi-TCOM working groups. Ruojing leads ISTA special projects focused on developing digital tools for species identification on the ISTA Universal List.
Deborah Meyer received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Plant Biology from California State University, Sacramento (CSUS). She served as Program Supervisor for the Seed Science, Nematology, and Plant Pathology Laboratories at the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) Plant Pest Diagnostics Center. She worked in the field of seed quality testing for forty-one years before retiring from CDFA in 2019, and she continues to volunteer in the Seed Science Laboratory. Deborah’s areas of interest include seed identification, seed testing method development, and the development of educational materials related to seed identification and purity analysis.
Deborah was an AOSA (The Association of Official Seed Analyst) Certified Seed Analyst (Purity and Germination) and an SCST (The Society of Commercial Seed Technologists) Registered Seed Technologist. She served as AOSA President from 1994 to 1996, as AOSA Rules Committee Chair from 2001 to 2006, and as Co-Chair of the AOSA/SCST Purity Testing Committee from 1994 to 2025. In retirement, Deborah remains an active member of the ISTA Purity Committee and a member of the AOSA/SCST Seed Technologist Examination Board. She has contributed numerous factsheets to the ISTA Universal Species List, posted on the ISTA and International Seed Morphology Association websites.
