The Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council (MSMC) has signed a patent licensing agreement with ProHarvest Seeds to further expand the availability and development of high-oleic soybean technology for farmers and end users.
The agreement grants ProHarvest Seeds access to intellectual property related to high-oleic soybean traits developed through soybean breeding and research programs supported by Missouri soybean farmers. High-oleic soybeans offer improved oil stability and functionality for food, fuel and industrial applications, helping increase the value of U.S. soybeans in domestic and global markets.
ProHarvest Seeds is focused on advancing crop innovation and delivering improved seed technologies to farmers. Through the licensing agreement, the company will work to integrate the high-oleic technology into soybean breeding programs and commercial seed offerings, helping bring new high-oleic varieties to market.
High-oleic soybeans also offer potential benefits for livestock producers, particularly in dairy nutrition. High-oleic soybean meal can provide an energy-dense feed ingredient that supports milk production while helping improve the fatty acid profile of dairy rations.
“Missouri soybean farmers invest in research and innovation to create new opportunities and markets for soy,” said Bryan Stobaugh, director of licensing and commercialization for Missouri Soybeans. “Licensing agreements like this help ensure that farmer-funded discoveries move beyond the research stage and into real-world applications that strengthen demand for soybeans.”
“ProHarvest Seeds is continually seeking partnerships to enhance the profitability of our customers, the SOYLEIC technology does just that,” said Randy Wilken, President, at ProHarvest Seeds.
High-oleic soybean oil has gained significant interest from food companies, biofuel producers and industrial users because of its improved shelf life, performance and sustainability benefits. Expanding the availability of high-oleic soybean varieties provides farmers with additional opportunities to participate in value-added markets.
Partnerships with companies such as ProHarvest Seeds help ensure soybean innovations move efficiently from research to commercial adoption, delivering benefits to farmers, processors and end users across the value chain.
Missouri Soybeans continues to work with private sector partners, seed companies and researchers to bring new technologies to market that enhance farmer profitability and strengthen the long-term competitiveness of U.S. soybeans.
