UK Flour Millers gives full Group 1 status to recommended winter wheat variety Arlington from DSV

United Kingdom
28 April 2026

Newly recommended winter wheat variety Arlington has been upgraded to full Group 1 status by the UK Flour Millers (UKFM) Varieties Working Group (VWG).

Group 1 wheat varieties are usually given a ‘provisional’ UKFM status when a new edition of the Recommended Lists for cereals and oilseeds (RL) is released.

Winter wheat variety Arlington (from DSV) was given this status when it was added to RL 2026/27 on 1 December 2025.

Further milling and baking tests on commercial quantities of provisional varieties determine whether they should achieve ‘full’ status.

The UKFM VWG, which comprises representatives from major UK flour milling businesses, has now assigned a full UKFM Group 1 status to Arlington, based on the variety’s performance last year and previous assessment results.

Group 1 comprises bread-making varieties that demonstrate consistent milling and baking performance.

It is the third consecutive year that a new Group 1 variety has been added to the RL winter wheat list.

We have updated the RL app and online RL tables to reflect the upgrade in Arlington’s group status.
