Le Parlement européen vient de franchir un cap historique. En adoptant le règlement sur les Nouvelles Techniques Génomiques (NTG), l’Europe se dote enfin d’un cadre scientifique et proportionné pour les biotechnologies végétales.

Ce vote met fin à huit ans de blocage. Huit ans d’incertitude juridique depuis la décision de la Cour de Justice de l’UE dans l’affaire Confédération Paysanne (C-528/16). Désormais, ce sont les caractéristiques des plantes obtenues qui seront évaluées — et non plus la méthode employée pour les obtenir. C’est un changement de paradigme.

Le travail ne fait que commencer. L’AFBV et ses partenaires allemands — FGV, GfPB et WGG — appellent toutes les parties prenantes à s’engager sans délai avec la Commission européenne. L’objectif : rendre ce Règlement pleinement opérationnel d’ici deux ans, en dialogue ouvert avec la société.
 

Plant biotechnology: Europe chooses innovation

The European Parliament has just reached a historic milestone. By adopting the New Genomic Techniques (NGT) Regulation, Europe is finally equipping itself with a scientifically grounded and proportionate framework for plant biotechnology.

This vote ends eight years of deadlock. Eight years of legal uncertainty since the Court of Justice of the EU ruled in the Confédération Paysanne case (C-528/16). From now on, it is the characteristics of the plants obtained that will be assessed — no longer the method used to obtain them. This is a paradigm shift.

The work is only beginning. AFBV and its German partners — FGV, GfPB and WGG — call on all stakeholders to engage without delay with the European Commission. The goal: to
make this Regulation fully operational within two years, through open dialogue with society. 
 

Pflanzenbiotechnologie: Europa setzt auf Innovation

Das Europäische Parlament hat soeben einen historischen Meilenstein gesetzt. Mit der Verabschiedung der Verordnung über neue genomische Techniken (NGT) schafft Europa endlich einen wissenschaftlich fundierten und verhältnismäßigen Rechtsrahmen für die Pflanzenbiotechnologie.

Diese Abstimmung beendet acht Jahre Stillstand. Acht Jahre Rechtsunsicherheit, seit der Europäische Gerichtshof im Fall Confédération Paysanne (C-528/16) entschieden hat. Von nun an werden die Eigenschaften der genomeditierten Pflanzen bewertet – nicht mehr die Methode, mit der sie gewonnen wurden. Dies ist ein Paradigmenwechsel.

Die Arbeit fängt erst an. Die AFBV und ihre deutschen Partner – FGV, GfPB und WGG – rufen alle Beteiligten dazu auf, unverzüglich mit der Europäischen Kommission in Kontakt zu treten. Das
Ziel: diese Verordnung innerhalb von zwei Jahren durch einen offenen Dialog mit der Gesellschaft voll funktionsfähig zu machen.
