In Bangladesh, local growers recently gathered in Selim Bazar for an East-West Seed Farmers Field Day to evaluate high-performing vegetable varieties under real growing conditions.

The spotlight was on Behula pumpkin, a variety that now accounts for nearly 70% of the local market. Smallholders in Noakhali rely on Behula for its strong virus resistance, early maturity, and dependable off-season adaptability, enabling farmers to harvest when market prices are highest and earn better incomes for their households.

Growers also inspected field trials of Wonder Green yard long bean, which impressed visiting farmers with its excellent plant vigor, strong virus tolerance, and extended picking period.
