Punjab Agricultural Research Board (PARB) has approved funding of Rs 136 million for 10 research projects relating to agriculture and livestock at a meeting of its Board of Directors here on Wednesday. The meeting was chaired by the Punjab Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Malik Ahmad Ali Aulakh.
Speaking on this occasion the Minister said that PARB has already approved 43 research projects for which Rs 870 million has been sanctioned. He said till today overall 53 high priority research projects have been approved by PARB for which more than Rs 1 billion has been made available reflecting commitment of the Provincial Government to promote agriculture research and farmers friendly policies.
Dr Mubarak Ali Chief Executive PARB explained the scope and expected outcome impact of the projects approved by PARB by giving presentation in the meeting. According to the detail an amount of Rs 20.634 million was approved for the project "Enhancing Performance of Buffaloes through Improved Feeding Management at different Physiological Stages Up To First Lactation."
An amount of Rs 12.988 million was approved for the project "Enhancement of Cost Effective Mutton Production through Genetically Enhanced Prolificacy Management" whereas Rs 10.15 million was approved for the project "Development, Evaluation and Promotion of Herbal Anticoccidal for the control of Coccidiosis in Poultry".
PARB board of directors also approved an amount of Rs 15.199 million for another research project titled "Improvement of Lentil Germplasm for high Seed Yield and Disease Resistance".
An amount of Rs 20.46 million will also be provided for the project "Preparation and Field Evaluation of Thermostable V4 Newcastle Disease Vaccine".
PARB board of directors also agreed to provide funding of Rs 23.233 million for " Development of Transgenic Cotton with Multiple Genes Resistant to Control Cotton Leaf Curl Virus".
Whereas Rs 16.270 million was approved for the project titled "Development, Evaluation and promotion of distillery yeast sludge (DYS) based poultry feed and prebiotic agent for productivity enhancement of poultry meat and eggs". An amount of Rs 2.95 million was also approved for the project "Economics of Livestock Production and its Marketing in Punjab".
Whereas Rs 14.44 million was approved for the project "Development of Meat Type Japenese Quail in higher body weight (coutrnix coturnic japonica) acclimatised to Indigenous Managemental Conditions through 6 Generations of Closed Flock Breeding Programme". An amount of Rs 14.130 million was also approved for the tenth research projects titled" Development of Vaccine for Buffalo and Cattle Calf Diarrhea".
