BioDiagnostics, Inc., (BDI) a leading provider of seed testing services, has hired Dr. Benjamin (Beni) Kaufman to manage its DNA Technologies laboratory. “DNA-based testing services have been the fastest growing area of our business for the last four years,” explained BDI President Quentin Schultz. “This growth has been driven by the industry need for a wider array of transgenic trait tests and the desire to quickly bring new, improved, and/or converted inbred lines to commercialization.”
Beginning October 1, 2009, Dr. Kaufman will be responsible for facilitating the growth and development of all aspects of BDI’s DNA testing technologies, including developing new testing methodologies and working with plant breeders and seed producers to determine appropriate test plans and tools to meet their specific needs.
“Since 2001, Dr. Kaufman has been developing testing tools to meet these types of needs within a major seed company and is experienced in the testing issues related to these needs,” Schultz said. “He will guide our DNA Technologies Laboratory in developing new testing procedures that are accurate and repeatable, and meet the needs of our customers in a timely and efficient manner.”
Dr. Kaufman has a Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics from the University of Illinois and a M.S. in Population Genetics from Tel-Aviv University. He is the author of several papers, an invited industry symposium speaker, and organized the 2006 Biotech Trait Detection Workshop with the International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) and Iowa State University.
BDI is the seed industry’s trusted authority in seed testing, providing genetic and trait purity, adventitious presence, chemical analysis, and other diagnostic and standard seed-testing services for seed producers in the U.S. and international markets.
