Savia Biotech adds three new molecular markers for tomato genotyping

Savia Biotech is pleased to announce that three new resistance markers have been added to the growing list of routine marker genotyping services for tomato: Frl (Fusarium oxysporum radicis-lycopersici), Mi-23 (Meloidogyne spp.), and Ty-3a/Ty-3b (TYCLV). With these recent additions, there are now 14 resistance markers available for tomato.
FRL: Fusarium oxysporum radicis-lycopersici is the pathogen known for causing Crown and Root rot. It is present in all tomato producing regions of the world. The best means of control for this threat is to grow varieties that are Forl resistant. The FRL marker allows for reliable genotyping for resistance and susceptibility to Forl.
Mi-23: For quite some time, the Mi-1 marker was the only marker available for nematode resistance. The newer Mi-23 marker has the added advantage that it is located closer to the Mi gene, which makes it even more precise than Mi-1. Additionally, this marker corrects the problem of false positives for Mi-1 known as the “ghost genotype,” which has been observed in certain breeding lines with Ty-1 introgression (resistance for Mi-1 is closely located to Ty-1 on chromosome 6).
Ty-3a/Ty-3b: The resistance gene for TYLCV (Ty-3) contains 3 different alleles. The presence of the different combinations of these alleles confers varying degrees of resistance to TYCLV.
