The Oregon Seed Trade Association (OSTA) recently held its 43rd Annual Summer Convention in Sunriver, Oregon. Attendees were updated on current issues and projects underway at the Oregon Tall and Fine Fescue Commission, the Oregon Department of Agriculture, Oregon State University and the American Seed Trade Association. In addition to general association business, the OSTA awarded $3,000.00 in scholarships to Isaac Keister and Chase Cochran.
In an effort to update the association’s image, OSTA members voted to amend the name of the association, changing it to the Oregon Seed Association. Members also made permanent a new tag line of “Marketing Seeds to the World.” With this, a rebranding effort is underway and in the future you will see a fresh new look from the OSA.
“Changing our tagline to ‘Marketing Seeds to the World’ sends a strong message that the Oregon seed industry brings value to Oregon, as well as value to the world by being trend setters in quality and innovation,” said Duane Klundt, who was confirmed as OSA’s new president.
OSA members elected new executive officers and board members. The 2012-2013 executive officers are Duane Klundt of Grassland Oregon, President; Bryan Muntz of IntegraTurf, Vice President; Todd Bond of Mountain View Seeds, Secretary/Treasurer; and John Thyssen of Barenbrug USA, Past President. The OSA 2012-2013 Board of Directors includes Greg Loberg, West Coast Beet Seed Company; Leon Strait, Pennington Seed; Mandi Mack, Pickseed; Brian Martin, Turf Merchants; Scott Harer, Columbia Seed; and Jeff Martin, The Scotts Co.
“The meeting was a great success,” stated outgoing President John Thyssen. “OSA is now a more unified, pro-active body than it was a few years ago. I am confident that the OSA executive team and board members will continue with the momentum we are experiencing.”
OSA would like to thank OSTA past Presidents Bill Dunn and Pat McClain for their years of service on the OSTA Board of Directors.
