Chinese research can benefit Pakistan in agriculture sector

The 60 years long Chinese research can benefit the Pakistan in agriculture sector for superior crop varieties to meet ever increasing national food grain requirements.
Leader of the 4-member Chinese private sector delegation Dr John Liu talking to Vice Chancellor, Punjab University Professor Mujahid Kamran here Thursday, during their visit to varsity and said, "We can provide expertise for educational purpose of both students and farmers in Punjab through joint ventures (JV).'
He added that "we have identified a Chinese hybrid rice variety with excellent performance and taste suitable for Pakistani consumers.
He said China could also share its rich experience for identifying the best quality wheat varieties to meet the demand and quality standard in Pakistan.
He said further that existing joint venture between Biocentury Transgene (China) and Guard Agricultural Research and Services, Lahore can help PU to establish modern biotech lab in Lahore which can be a part of scientific collaboration.
Dr John Liu, who is internationally, acclaimed agricultural scientist, said that biotech traits in Pakistan and China are sustainable for the long-term interest of Pakistan.
He said that demonstration of the Chinese fusion Bt technology in both OP and hybrid varieties especially hybrid cotton-the next booster for Pakistan cotton production.
Underling the indispensable significance of crop and water management technology, he said that "we can help Pakistan to address the pressure of reduced water supply due to more and more built water reservoirs along with upstream area in Pakistan, mature and affordable dripping technology will become vital for Pakistan's sustainable agriculture in the future.
Later, VC along with Dean, Director and heads of the different science faculties also had long question-answer session with Chinese delegation for future collaboration and research facilities for PU students.
