Australian Oilseeds Federation elects Tret Potter as its new President

Australia Square, New South Wales, Australia
October 27, 2009

Last week’s Annual General Meeting, Trent Potter was elected as President of the AOF for a 3 year term. Trent is a Senior Research Scientist with the South Australian Research and Development Institute, (SARDI), the S.A. government’s primary industry’s R&D arm. Trent is SARDI’s technical specialist in canola and mustard and has a Statewide role to coordinate the field evaluation of canola and mustard. Trent also undertakes agronomic research into oilseeds and research into blackleg in canola. Trent has a Masters degree in Agricultural Science from the University of Adelaide. His project was investigating sunflower agronomy in South Australia, and he has been conducting agronomic research into oilseeds since 1975. Trent also has a role in oilseed extension, talking at GRDC updates, major field days and forums and is on the management committee for the Better Oilseeds project.

At this time in the oilseed industry’s development, where canola is becoming an increasingly important part of the winter cropping rotation, with new varieties being introduced to deliver much needed benefits in critical areas such as sustainability, improved water stress tolerance and consumer health benefits, Trent is ideally suited to lead the AOF into its next phase of driving industry growth and development.

Supporting Trent in this role, two Vice Presidents were also elected at the AGM, being Rob Wilson, Canola Research Manager, Pioneer Hi-Bred Australia Pty Ltd and immediate past President, Robert Green of Cargill.

The remainder of the AOF Executive elected at last week’s AGM are as follows:

Charles Aldersey- Treasurer,
Adam Davis- representing the refining sector;
Maree Crawford- representing the sunflower industry;
Rob Dickie- representing the export sector;
Steve Marcroft- representing the canola industry;
Denis M’Gee- representing the soybean industry;
Mike O’Hare- representing the grower sector;
Richard Orton- representing the stockfeed sector;
Jon Slee- representing Oilseeds WA.
