The Ministry for Primary Industries New Zealand (MPI) has issued the import health standard: 152.02: Importation and Clearance of Fresh Fruit & Vegetables into New Zealand with a minor amendment. The import health standard is dated 10 April 2013 and replaces the version dated 21 March 2013 and is available on the MPI website at:
http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/files/ihs/152-02.pdf
The amendment concerns the import of capsicums (Capsicum annuum) from the Netherlands and removes the requirement and additional declaration for capsicums to be either:
(1) Sourced from a place of production free from Tuta absoluta or;
(2) Effectively treated against Tuta absoluta.
The amendment is being made because new information shows that there is no feeding or breeding association between Tuta absoluta and capsicum fruits. Previous host records have been determined to be erroneous or unsubstantiated. Therefore, the previous requirement, which was imposed as an emergency measure in September 2012, is not technically justified based on up-to-date information.
