Cereal crops get off to the right start with Wuxal Terios - New seed treatment from Precision Laboratories promotes better stands and stronger roots

Waukegan, Illinois, USA
May 6, 2014

Seedling health, emergence, root development - some of the most critical building blocks of yield are established before roots become active. Wuxal® Terios, a new nutritional seed treatment for cereals from Precision Laboratories, gets inside the seed to provide the nutritional support that wheat, barley, oats and rye need to get off to the right start.

From germination to the three-leaf stage, developing cereal plants grow from energy stored within the seed. Wuxal Terios supplements this natural reserve with targeted amounts of seven key macro and micronutrients vital to seedling development. Treated crops emerge faster, develop better stands and build stronger roots. The enhanced plant establishment promoted by Wuxal Terios creates a foundation for season long stress resistance and yield performance.

“Soil-applied fertilizers enhance yields. However, only after the three-leaf stage are the roots capable of taking advantage of that fertilizer, and then only to the extent that temperature, moisture and soil compaction allows them to be absorbed through the roots,” said Terry Culp, vice president of seed enhancement and foliar nutrition at Precision Laboratories. “Wuxal Terios goes to work immediately upon germination, getting the crop off to a strong start.”

Formulated for excellent coverage, adhesion and compatibility with seed-applied insecticides and fungicides, Wuxal Terios is easy to use and achieves full effect at an application rate of just 2.3 fluid ounces per hundredweight. An application of Terios increases the amount of each micronutrient over the typical seed content between 95 percent and 700 percent, depending on the nutrient. Nutrients not absorbed directly into the seed diffuse into the surrounding area, where they resist soil binding and remain available for absorption through the seedling’s first roots.

“Not all seeds are created equal, so the best time to make sure all seeds become healthy seedlings is at the very beginning when the seed goes in the ground, not once plants have already emerged,” said Culp. “Wuxal Terios provides the balanced resources cereal crops need to push through fast, reach the sunlight and set roots that will support them physically and nutritionally through the entire season.”
