Protection of Seed Innovations - SIPA Technical Education Unit - Chicago, Illinois, December 8, 2015

The Seed Innovation and Protection Alliance (SIPA) is hosting a technical educational unit in Chicago, Illinois on December 8, 2015 from 8 am to 11 am in conjunction with the American Seed Trade Association Corn, Sorghum and Soybean Research Conference. The technical education unit will include three panel discussions on how to identify seed innovation, steps for procuring protection for innovations and how to maintain your intellectual property.
Session on protection of seed innovations:
The second session from 09:00 AM to 09:50 AM will include a panel discussion on protection of seed innovations and will include presentations from Barb Campbell, Patent Attorney with Cochran Freund & Young; John Schillinger, President and founder of Schillinger Genetics, Inc.; and Nancy Parker, Licensing Associate with the University of Missouri Office of Technology Management and Industry Relations
- Barb Campbell will discuss the basics of filing a patent or PVP application as well as steps for preparing for a patent application
- John Schillinger will discuss policies to think about when choosing to protect seed innovations from an industry perspective
- Nancy Parker will discuss some of the policies a university considers when looking to protect and license innovations

Continuing Education Units and Continue Legal Education credits for this program have been or are being applied for with the state of Illinois.
