SAC, ADAS and STC are involved in an HDC funded project seeking to determine the cause of crown rot in organic crops.
Crown rot occurs sporadically in organic carrot crops causing a slow moving rot in the crown and centre of the carrot, pronounced browning and is associated with foliar dieback. We hope that by identifying the cause, effective treatments can be received.
We would therefore be very glad to receive carrot samples which show symptoms of crown rot which we could test.
Instructions on sending samples:
Please send six affected carrots and six unaffected carrots from the same site for comparative purposes. Provided samples are relatively intact they can be sent by ordinary parcel post, loosely wrapped in newspaper and contained in a plastic bag. Very advanced rots might be more difficult to post but please contact us to discuss. Please provide as much information as possible about your samples using the sample submission form and send with your sample to:
